Some podcasts teach. Some tell beautiful stories. And some exist purely to make a kid cackle in the back seat, which has its own special value at the end of a long day. There’s really nothing quite like the sound of a kid completely losing it over a good joke.
So here are the funniest shows in the Once Upon a Pod directory: comedy game shows, improv, debates, and sketch comedy that are genuinely funny, the kind grown-ups laugh at for real and not just politely tolerate from the front seat. You’ll find all of these in our Comedy & Games category.
Story Pirates
All ages · Sketch comedy + songs
If you only try one show on this list, start here. A troupe of professional comedians and musicians takes stories written by real kids and turns them into full sketch-comedy bits and original songs, with the occasional celebrity guest along for the ride. Because the source material comes straight from kids’ imaginations, the humor is gloriously unpredictable, and it’s polished enough that you’ll catch yourself laughing too. It’s award-winning, and it’s easy to hear why.
The Big Fib
Ages 6+ · Game show
Each week, a kid interviews two “experts” on a topic. One is the real deal and the other is a complete liar, and the kid has to figure out who’s fibbing. The comedy lives in the liar’s increasingly ridiculous claims, delivered with total confidence and refereed by a robot named L.I.S.A. It’s a riot, and it sneakily teaches kids to question what they’re told. A rare show that’s funny and good for them.
Smash Boom Best
Ages 7+ · Debate show
Two cool things go head-to-head, like Pikachu versus Mario or flamingos versus axolotls, with debaters arguing each side and a kid judge crowning the winner. It’s silly and surprisingly smart at the same time, which makes sense given it comes from the Brains On team. Fair warning: it will start arguments in your house.
Don’t Break the Rules
Ages 6+ · Improv game show
Four voice actors invent brand-new characters on the spot, based on prompts written by kids and hosted by the wonderful Carly Ciarrocchi. The whole joy is watching grown-ups commit completely to a kid’s bonkers premise. It’s a Parents’ Choice winner, and it’s perfect for kids who love that anything-can-happen, unscripted energy.
WeWow
Ages 5+ · Variety show
A “bonkerballs” weekend variety show from the Wow in the World universe. Hosts Dennis and Reggie answer listener questions, play games, respond to fan reviews, and generally goof around. It’s loose and chaotic in the best possible way, and if your kid already loves Wow in the World, this is more of that same goofy energy with the volume turned up.
Food Crimes
Ages 7+ · Comedy court show
Real kids bring their real dinnertime grievances, like who took the last cookie or the great spinach deception of last Tuesday, to “food court” for a hilarious ruling. The everyday relatability is exactly why it lands, because every kid has a food crime to report. A fun, bite-sized pick for the kid who never met an argument they didn’t want to win.
That’s our current funny lineup. Every one of these lives in the Comedy & Games category, and you can filter the whole directory by age to find the right fit for your crew.
Now go enjoy the giggling from the back seat. You’ve earned it.
