More than a podcast directory

A podcast app made for your kid.

You've probably already discovered Once Upon a Pod as a place to find great podcasts for kids. The app takes that idea a whole lot further.

Once Upon a Pod is designed to make finding something great to listen to easier for kids — and give parents more peace of mind.

Recommendations made with your child in mind

Every kid is different. Some love dinosaurs. Some want stories about space. Some can't get enough of mysteries, while others would rather stay far away from anything remotely spooky.

When you create an account, you'll tell Once Upon a Pod a little about your child — their age, interests, and what they like to listen to. We'll use that information to help them discover shows that are a good fit.

And because I personally listen to and curate every podcast on Once Upon a Pod, recommendations aren't just based on what happens to be popular. They're shows I've actually listened to and chosen to include.

Give kids freedom. Keep parents in control.

One of the best things about podcasts is that kids can explore them independently. One of the trickiest things about podcasts is making sure they're exploring the right ones.

Once Upon a Pod is designed to give you both.

Shows are organized by age and category, and parents can decide what their child has access to. You can hide individual shows or entire categories that aren't right for your child.

  • Don't want your seven-year-old finding the shows meant for older kids? Hide them.
  • Your child doesn't like scary stories? Hide the scary category.

Once you've set things up, your child can explore without you having to worry about what they're going to stumble across next.

A podcast player kids actually want to use

Once Upon a Pod isn't designed like an adult podcast app shrunk down for kids.

Kids get a colorful, visual way to explore podcasts and discover shows they might never have found on their own. They can customize their Podling companion and even choose the background color of their app.

The goal is simple: let kids take the lead in discovering what they love.

Finally, an answer to “What should I listen to?”

Every parent who has ever heard that question knows how quickly it gets old.

Once Upon a Pod makes discovering something new part of the experience. Personalized recommendations, age-based browsing, and easy-to-explore categories give kids plenty of places to look when they're ready for something new.

Instead of handing your phone to your child and hoping they find something appropriate, Once Upon a Pod gives them a place that's made for them.

A special place for bedtime

Listening doesn't have to stop when the day winds down.

In the evening, Once Upon a Pod can invite your child to start winding down. If they're ready, they'll be taken to a special bedtime section filled with calming nighttime podcasts and playlists designed for sleep.

It's a simple way to make listening part of the bedtime routine, too.

Your child's own Once Upon a Pod

The app is where Once Upon a Pod becomes personal.

Your child's age and interests help shape their recommendations. You decide what they can explore. They get their own Podling, their own look, and a fun place to discover what they want to hear.

You get more control and peace of mind. They get more independence and more things to discover.

That's what I wanted Once Upon a Pod to be: a place where kids can discover wonderful podcasts on their own, without parents having to worry about what they'll find.
